Sound.xyz Adds Ethereum Layer-2 Optimism Support for More Efficient Music NFT Trading and Ownership

June 15 (Cointime) - Sound.xyz, a popular platform for music NFTs, has announced that it now supports Ethereum Layer-2 Optimism. This integration is expected to make trading of music NFTs more efficient and cost-effective. Sound.xyz has also released a Eurodisco dance track called "V-Buterin" in honor of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, which is available as a free-to-mint NFT until June 19.

This development is significant for music NFTs, as it provides new opportunities for artists and collectors to have greater ownership and control over the distribution of their work. The integration of Optimism is expected to lead to more innovative solutions that combine blockchain technology with the music industry, creating new opportunities for collaboration and value exchange.

  • Vitalik: Blockchain can be used as a "truth machine", but other tools are still needed to assist in further truth discovery

On July 20th, Vitalik Buterin replied to a social media user's inquiry about "what is a globally universal blockchain" by stating that blockchain is a "truth machine" and, in a specific sense, it provides a consensus that is close to the truth about when a message was sent, but it will not tell you if landing on the moon is true. This greatly reduces the attack surface of blockchain, but it does mean that we need other tools to actually execute (or assist) in discovering the latter truth.

  • Vitalik Buterin: ZK-SNARKs and other technologies are inefficient, and Ethereum aims to achieve real-time proofs

Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, gave a keynote speech titled "Reaching the Limits of Protocol Design" at the 2024 Hong Kong Web3 Carnival. Vitalik Buterin stated that technologies such as ZK-SNARKs, MPC, and FHE have efficiency and security issues. Ethereum's slot block time is 12 seconds, the average block verification time is about 400 milliseconds, and the ZK-SNARK proof time is about 20 minutes. Ethereum's goal is to achieve real-time proof. Regarding the current low efficiency issue, Vitalik stated that the solution is "parallelization and aggregation trees", using SNARK algos and hash to improve efficiency, and using ASIC for ZK hardware acceleration.

  • Make Ethereum Cypherpunk Again

One of my favorite memories from ten years ago was taking a pilgrimage to a part of Berlin that was called the Bitcoin Kiez: a region in Kreuzberg where there were around a dozen shops within a few hundred meters of each other that were all accepting Bitcoin for payments. The centerpiece of this community was Room 77, a restaurant and bar run by Joerg Platzer. In addition to simply accepting Bitcoin, it also served as a community center, and all kinds of open source developers, political activists of various affiliations, and other characters would frequently come by.
