The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has not yet decided whether to clarify new crypto rules following a request from Coinbase, the country's largest crypto exchange. The SEC stated in a filing that it "has not decided what action to take on Coinbase's rulemaking petition."
The request was made by Coinbase last year, asking the SEC to clarify its rules on which assets should be considered securities and how to regulate digitally native securities.
The SEC's lawsuit against Coinbase alleging that it operated as an unlicensed securities exchange is part of a broader crackdown on the industry, led by Chairman Gary Gensler.
