Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, launched a new social media platform called Threads in 100 countries, which has been compared to Twitter. Despite criticism from Twitter owner Elon Musk, Threads gained 100 million sign-ups in just four days, surpassing Twitter's five-year record.
Threads is a sister app to Instagram and offers similar features to Twitter, but does not support direct messaging, hashtags, or trending stories. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri stated that Threads was created to provide an open platform for the Instagram community, not to replace Twitter.
However, Twitter has alleged that Meta used insider information from former Twitter employees to design Threads, which Meta denies.
