Fantom has announced the launch of the Fantom Sonic testnet. The three main upgrades of Sonic include: 1. Fantom Virtual Machine, which provides faster smart contract execution speed compared to the old EVM. 2. Carmen database storage, which uses more efficient data structures and can reduce storage space by up to 90%, thereby reducing the cost of validators. 3. Optimized Lachesis consensus mechanism, which provides an improved transaction pool. In addition, the Fantom Sonic mainnet is scheduled to launch in the spring of 2024, allowing new markets to adopt blockchain technology that was previously hindered by limited transaction throughput and slow settlement.
