Polygon To Help Fight NFT Scams With Web3 Infra Protocol Partnership
Wakweli, a web3 infrastructure protocol that issues certificates of authenticity for non-fungible tokens (NFT), has partnered with blockchain platform Polygon to make NFT authentication possible. Under the partnership, all digital assets on Polygon will be compatible with Wakweli's certification system, and NFT project holders on the Polygon chain will be able to request authenticity certificates for each of their assets. Staking the utility token of Wakweli, WAKU, is necessary to create a certificate request, with the amount to stake dependent on the level of trust needed for each case. Wakweli's testnet will be available in April and can be used with Polygon's Mumbai testnet. Alpha testing with Polygon's mainnet will begin in Q2 2023, and general mainnet compatibility is expected to be ready by Q3 2023. The partnership aims to enhance the security of the digital ecosystem by providing a medium for detecting counterfeit NFTs.
UK NFT Dropped Over Lack of Demand, Finance Minister Hunt Says
The UK government has dropped plans for a non-fungible token (NFT) issued by the Royal Mint due to concerns over demand, according to Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt. The Royal Mint was initially tasked with creating the NFT in April 2022, but the government announced on Monday that it had decided to drop the project. Hunt cited the changing landscape of the NFT space and the government's uncertainty over demand as the reasons for the decision. Despite this, the UK government remains committed to its crypto hub ambitions and has not been deterred by the recent downturn in the crypto market.
Freeport Clears SEC Reg a Review for Tokenized Art Offerings
Non-fungible token (NFT) startup Freeport has received regulatory clearance from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch its blockchain platform for crowd-ownership of a four-piece collection of Andy Warhol prints. The platform will allow retail investors to gain fractional ownership of the fine arts market, which is typically exclusive to high-net-worth individuals due to pricing. Each piece consists of 10,000 shares, with a minimum purchase of 10 per individual, allowing up to 1,000 individuals to own a piece of the Warhol art. Freeport's CEO and co-founder, Colin Johnson, believes that as more value moves on-chain, fractionalized art is increasingly being sought after by a younger, less financially flexible class of investors. The SEC clearance allows Freeport to raise $20 million in 12 months in a Tier 1 offering or $75 million in 12 months in the more stringent Tier 2 offering, under the Regulation A exemption.
