Ethereum Layer 2 Network zkSync Era Jumps to Nearly $250M in Locked Value

The Ethereum scaling blockchain zkSync Era has attracted over $245 million in around three weeks after launch. Data from L2Beat shows over 70,000 ETH, $81 million in USDC stablecoin, and $8 million in MUTE tokens have been locked on zkSync since March 22, distributed among several zkSync-based projects. On-chain exchange Syncswap leads in total value locked (TVL) among Era-based services, followed by Velocore and Mute. Users can earn up to 80% in annualized rewards by providing liquidity or executing trades on these platforms. On-chain derivatives trading has not caught up among Era users so far, and some memecoins fashioned after the Shiba Inu dog breed are seeing cycles of brisk price surges followed by a dump. ZkSync is named after the so-called "ZK rollups," which are a type of blockchain scaling system based on cryptography known as zero-knowledge proofs, seen as a key advance in speeding up blockchain transactions and reducing the cost of network activity.

Bitcoin Price Spikes Above $31K As Ethereum Gains Spark ‘Altseason’ Calls

Bitcoin (BTC) broke through $31,000 on April 14, reaching new ten-month highs, while altcoins, led by Ethereum (ETH), surged higher, prompting talk of an "altseason." Analysts noted that Bitcoin looks strong but will likely experience some shallow corrections in an upward trend, with $29,700 being a key level to focus on. While sentiment was peppered with references to "altseason," commentators acknowledged that Bitcoin is still in the driver's seat mid-term, and it would take a cooling off for BTC price action to stimulate rapid altcoin growth. Nonetheless, the total altcoin market cap added $62 billion in two weeks, and some analysts believe that copycat gains on altcoins should follow an initial surge led by Bitcoin.

Kraken to Withdraw US$1.17 Bln of Staked Ether in Line With SEC Ruling, Settlement

Kraken has initiated the largest amount of Ether withdrawals since the Ethereum blockchain's Shanghai upgrade that allows such withdrawals. The exchange has registered to withdraw 556,272 Ether worth around $1.17 billion, accounting for 63.3% of all staked Ether in the withdrawal queue. Coinbase and Huobi have also initiated withdrawals, but other than centralized exchanges, there has not been a significant volume of withdrawals. As of 1:30 p.m. in Hong Kong, more than 1 million Ether are in the queue for withdrawal. Despite concerns of a rush to withdraw and cash in the token, CryptoQuant does not expect a flood of Ether sales, as the majority of staked Ether is still holding losses compared to Ether prices when it was staked.
