Willem P. Roelandts was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Applied Materials in June 2015. Willem Roelandts has served on the board since 2004 and was Applied Materials’ lead independent director until his appointment as Chairman.

He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Xilinx, Inc., a supplier of programmable logic solutions, from July 2003 to February 2009, and as a director from January 1996 to August 2009. Willem Roelandts served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Xilinx from January 1996 to January 2008.

Prior to joining Xilinx, Willem Roelandts held various executive positions during a 29-year career at Hewlett-Packard Company, where he last served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computer Systems Organizations.

Willem Roelandts currently serves as a member of the board of directors of IMEC, a non-profit research company in Belgium, eSilicon Corporation, a privately held company, and the El Camino Hospital Foundation, a non-profit foundation, and on the Boards of Trustees of Santa Clara University and the Lincoln Law School. He is chairman of the advisory board of Engineering Pathways to Success at San Jose State University.

Willem Roelandts received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rijks Hogere Technische School in Belgium and holds an honorary doctorate from Santa Clara University (2004) and from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium (2009).
