Susan held executive management positions in the enterprise software and cloud computing industries for 25 years (1977‐2004). Employers included NCR Corporation, GE Information Systems, Oracle Corporation, Rightpoint and DoubleClick.

Susan formed and served as the first Chair of the Humane Society of the United States (Washington, DC) National Council for 5 years (2007‐2012). She continues to serve as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Humane Society Legislative Fund (Washington, DC), an organization focused on electing animal welfare supportive legislators at all levels of government.

Ms. Atherton lives in the Nob Hill neighborhood with her Missouri puppy mill shih tzu rescue Simba.
