Stephen Forrest is Vice President for Research at the University of Michigan and the William Gould Dow Collegiate Professor in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Physics.

Stephen is an expert in technology transfer and the holder of hundreds of patents.Stephen was appointed to the MEDC Executive Committee in 2011.

Stephen investigated photodetectors for optical communications at Bell Labs before joining the Electrical Engineering and Materials Science Departments at USC in 1985 where he worked on optoelectronic integrated circuits and organic semiconductors.

In 1992, he became the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University. Stephen served as director of the National Center for Integrated Photonic Technology and director of Princeton's Center for Photonics and Optoelectronic Materials (POEM).

Stephen chaired Princeton’s Electrical Engineering Department from 1997-2001.
