Nicholas Utton, Chief Marketing Officer of E*Trade, believes in the value of online advertising. In a 2007 Silicon Alley Insider article, Utton revealed that, a few years ago, E*Trade spent only their last dollars online. Today, says Nick Utton, "our first dollars go online. Search is a major part of that, and we're not even close to the top of our spend." Utton goes on to say in the same article that he and E*Trade will "keep spending more online until it plateaus out."

Nick Utton's strategic marketing campaigns run the gamut from Super Bowl ads, Google newspaper ad tests and Google television ad tests. Nicholas Utton, as Chief Marketing Officer of the New York-based online brokerage, is hoping that the shift in marketing strategies will allow for further collaboration which such entities as major cable providers.

Nicholas Utton's experience in marketing started in 1977 when he began classes at South Africa's University of Natal in Pietermaritzburg. After receiving a Bachelor of Commerce degree in business administration and marketing, Utton went on to earn a graduate degree in business economics from the University of South Africa in 1982. Nick Utton remained in the academic sector part-time after his graduation, completing a three-year lectureship with the University of Pretoria while simultaneously diving into the professional workforce.

Nicholas Utton's first managerial position was an Associate Product Manager position at Unilever, which was followed by a Product Manager position at Richardson Vicks and Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. Utton's resume includes executive positions at Cadbury Schweppes, Revlon International, MasterCard International, The NewPower Company, and JP Morgan Chase. Currently, Nick Utton is the Chief Marketing Officer for E*Trade, a New York-based online brokerage.
