Michael Ott is an experienced executive who has joined Nidus as an Entrepreneur in Residence, bringing significant experience in the energy field, with a focus on renewable energy. With expertise in identifying value propositions, raising VC funds and closing deals, Mike has also developed an extensive global network in the areas of renewable products and sustainability.

Since 2005, in Mike’s role as Executive Director of BIOWA, Iowa City, IA, he was responsible for converting the organization from a bio-based products trade group to a consulting group for renewable energy technologies. Additionally, he raised over $150 million from investors for traditional biofuel production facilities, advanced biofuels, windpower, biomass power, waste-to-energy and bio-based product companies, during which time he created a global network of experts. In his prior role as Director at Iowa BioDevelopment, he managed the Bioprocess Training Center along with Department of Labor grants designed to increase business productivity. As President of Lutra Management, Mike developed business and strategic plans along with valuations for startup companies. From 2000 – 2002, in his role as VP Acquisitions at Boca BioVentures, FL, Mike directed the VC arm with a $35 million biotechnology hedge fund with responsibility for all aspects of the deals.

Michael Ott received a B.S. in Chemistry from Simpson College in Iowa and a M.S. in Bioinorganic Chemistry from the University of Iowa.
