Jon Cooper is the founder of ebbu™, a multi-platform cannabinoid technology company. An entrepreneur with over two decades of experience, Jon never imagined himself in the cannabis industry, but after its legalization in Colorado, he was inspired by the stories of positive influences that medical cannabis had on individuals’ lives. At the same time, he was intrigued by an apparent downside of the plant: it seemed impossible to predict the effects a cannabis product would have on someone. Jon founded ebbu to research and develop cannabis-derived distilled products with predictable, reliable psychoactive effects.


ebbu has established itself as a driving force in the cannabis industry and has received recognition from a variety of outlets including Forbes, USA Today, Chicago Sun Times, Rolling Stone, High Times, Thrillist, Paste and Cannabis Business Times, to name just a few. Jon himself has been interviewed by outlets such as Civilized.life and Culture Magazine, sharing the company’s vision and discussing market challenges.


For the first three years, ebbu focused on producing THC cannabis products. Now, the company has shifted its goals to focus on hemp-derived cannabinoid formulations that can power other people’s medicines and recreational creations. This way, the ebbu brand and its values — consistency, predictability, repeatability — can serve as a true paradigm for the future of cannabis production for dozens of other up-and-coming businesses. ebbu has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Bloomberg News, HBO Vice, PBS Newshour, Fast Company and many more.

Jon Cooper is the first to admit that, although it’s made leaps and bounds since its initial legalization in Colorado, the cannabis industry is still far from stable. While that presents many challenges, it also motivates him to make the most of his business so that they can set a standard that will be emulated for decades to come.


As someone who has built a one-of-a-kind company from the ground up, Jon Cooper created this blog to share his insights into the trials and triumphs of entrepreneurship in an industry that is still largely unstable. After graduating in 1998 from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Political Science, Jon worked with Andersen Consulting and a small start-up before moving on to join the global strategy team at Level 3 Communications at the beginning of the telecom & internet infrastructure roll-up years. Jon told me that early in his career he always had the ability to approach problems from a different direction and he enjoyed building things.

Going forward, Cooper believes his primary sources of revenue will be licensing formulations and genetics. He also believes that of the two, the bigger more immediate opportunity is in genetics, not formulations.
