Rep. Emmer Introduces New Bill on Central Bank Digital Currency

Cointime Official

Thomas Earl Emmer Jr. , an American attorney and politician serving as the House Majority Whip since 2023, is introducing the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) Anti-Surveillance State Act to halt efforts of unelected bureaucrats in Washington, DC.

According to Emmer, the bill will prohibit the United States Federal Reserve from issuing a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) directly to anyone. Moreover, it will prevent the Federal Reserve from using a CBDC to implement its monetary policy or control the economy. If this bill is enacted, it will require the Fed's CBDC projects to be transparent to Congress, the policy-making body of the United States, and the American people.

Emmer claimed any CBDC should uphold American value, he stated:

"Any digital version of the dollar must uphold our American values of privacy, individual sovereignty, and free market competitiveness. Anything less opens the door to the development of a dangerous surveillance tool."

"After all, America remains a technological leader not because we force innovations to adopt our values under regulatory duress, but because we allow technology that holds these values at their core to flourish." Emmer added.
