Hikaru Sugi is president and chief executive officer (CEO) of DENSO's North American headquarters, DENSO International America, Inc., and an executive vice president of DENSO Corporation in Kariya, Aichi, Japan. He oversees the North, Central & South America Region.

Originally from Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Sugi graduated from the Tokyo Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1974. Following graduation he joined DENSO Corporation's (formerly Nippondenso Co., Ltd.) working on thermal technologies in the Thermal Development Division.

Following a series of positions in the thermal group, Sugi was promoted to project manager of Air-conditioning Research and Development in 1998. As Project Manager, Sugi was responsible for air-conditioning system advanced development and cockpit module development. In 2000, Sugi became director of the same division.

In June 2004, he was named one of DENSO's executive directors. He was promoted to senior executive director in June 2008. He was appointed to president and CEO of DENSO International America in June 2011. Sugi was appointed to executive vice president of DENSO Corporation in June 2013.

DENSO, a leading global supplier of advanced automotive technology, systems and components, employs over 130,000 people in 36 countries and regions, including Japan. Consolidated global sales for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2013 totaled US$38.1 billion.
