LY Corporation has denied any business partnership between its Web3 venture, Line Next, and Soneium, a Sony-backed Ethereum layer-2 network. The statement, released on March 28, refuted claims from media reports and social media suggesting a finalized partnership between LY and Soneium. Soneium had announced plans on March 12 to expand its business using the LINE API and LINE Mini Apps, but LY clarified that no formal business partnership exists. In response, a Soneium spokesperson confirmed that the March 12 announcement referred to a collaboration to explore integrating onchain Mini Apps within the Line ecosystem. LY Corporation, a Japanese tech giant formed through a merger with Line and Yahoo Japan, has its Web3 arm, Line Next, under its umbrella. Line Next, established in late 2021, raised $140 million in December 2023 and launched Mini Dapps in January, powered by Kaia, a blockchain formed by merging Line's Finschia chain with Kakao's Klaytn network. Soneium, backed by Sony, launched its mainnet in January with features like NFTs tied to Amazon Prime Video content. On March 28, Soneium announced a partnership with Animoca Brands to promote anime culture in Web3, starting with Anime ID, a reputation-based identifier for anime fans.
