Debra Johnston joined SALT in January 2019 as the Chief People Officer, serving on the executive team and supporting the People Operations and Administration teams. She is a strategic business leader with over 20 years of human resources experience and a background in banking and financial services. Before joining SALT, Debra was the Chief People Officer at Elevations Credit Union, which earned the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and was named a Best Company to Work For. Prior to that, she served as the VP, Human Resources for Nordstrom fsb - Bank & Credit and took on an expanded role to also lead HR to support the CFO and EVP Strategy & Business Development groups at Nordstrom, Inc., an admired Fortune 500 and a Fortune 100 Best Company to Work For. Debra was also previously a VP, Human Resources at HSBC, a Fortune Global 100 banking and financial services company. Debra has a Master of Science degree in Human Resources and a Bachelor degree in both Communications and Political Science. She holds certifications as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), and a Strategic HR Business Partner (sHRBP). Debra also served as President of the Central Coast Human Resource Association, a chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, and was an HR Instructor at Chapman University.
