zkSync Era Launches as First zkEVM on Ethereum, Uniswap and Major DeFi Players to Go Live

Cointime Official

zkSync has announced that its Era Mainnet Alpha is now open to all users. This move allows developers, projects, and users to experience the power of zkEVM.

"We’ve completed robust testing, multiple tier-1 security audits, public contests, and bug bounties. We’ve added independent monitoring and risk mitigation mechanisms. Now developers, projects, and users can build on and bridge funds to experience the power of zkEVM." the team said in an announcement.

zkSync Era is the first to be compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), unlike competitor StarkWare which uses a proprietary language named Cairo. This compatibility enables most Ethereum Decentralized Applications (DApps) to easily transfer over with minimal modifications required.

Major players in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space such as Uniswap, Sushi, Maker, and Curve, are scheduled to go live on zkSync Era.

Full thread:

It starts with our mission

Our mission is to accelerate the mass adoption of crypto for personal sovereignty. Scaling Ethereum isn't about TPS, costs, or UX; it’s a means to an end, not the goal itself. We're scaling freedom: trustless, barrierless economic cooperation.

The long-awaited dream

4 years ago, we saw that ZK would be the key to crypto's mass adoption. In Dec. 20' we launched zkSync Lite; a simple ZK-rollup for payments. Today our dream comes true: for the first time, a zkEVM is live & open to all on Mainnet with zkSync Era.

Never cut corners

We’ve spent $3.8M to secure zkSync Era, including:

  • 7 independent security audits by T1 auditors
  • 3 internal audits
  • 2 public security contests
  • Open-ended bug bounty program
  • Open-sourcing zkSync Era code But our work isn’t complete.

This is Alpha

The system is in the Alpha so we can monitor it with increased usage & TVL. In Alpha we'll:

  • Delay & monitor withdrawals
  • Permission proof submissions
  • Regularly monitor for vulnerabilities
  • Run new audits & bounties
  • Create a Security Council

Built for mass adoption

zkSync Era delivers features such as:

  • Native Account Abstraction
  • Powerful LLVM Compiler
  • Data Compression

These features are building blocks for Hyperscalability: our vision of a limitless Internet of ZK-powered Hyperchains on Ethereum.

Use zkSync Era

Users can now bridge funds & experience dapps built on zkSync Era:

  • Bridge funds: http://bridge.zksync.io
  • Explore ecosystem: http://ecosystem.zksync.io

Remember this is alpha. Don’t put your life savings at risk.

Build on zkSync Era

Start with our Docs: http://era.zksync.io

Freedom is the mission zkSync was founded with freedom at the center. Crypto is the most important technology protecting freedom, so we made it our mission is to scale freedom globally and to everyone. We will not stop until this mission is achieved.

  • U.S. Congressman Mike Flood: Looking forward to working with the next SEC Chairman to revoke the anti-crypto banking policy SAB 121

US House of Representatives will investigate Representative Mike Flood's recent statement: "Despite widespread opposition, SAB 121 is still operating as a regulation, even though it has never gone through the normal Administrative Procedure Act process." Flood said, "I look forward to working with the next SEC chairman to revoke SAB 121. Whether Chairman Gary Gensler resigns on his own or President Trump fulfills his promise to dismiss Gensler, the new government has an excellent opportunity to usher in a new era after Gensler's departure." He added, "It's not surprising that Gensler opposed the digital asset regulatory framework passed by the House on a bipartisan basis earlier this year. 71 Democrats and House Republicans passed this common-sense framework together. Although the Democratic-led Senate rejected it, it represented a breakthrough moment for cryptocurrency and may provide information for the work of the unified Republican government when the next Congress begins in January next year."

There has been growing discussion around the possibility of increasing Ethereum’s gas throughput, either by raising the gas limit or reducing slot time. The key argument in favor of this is that the hardware requirements for running a validator have steadily decreased over the past four years.
