World Chain is now open to every human

From world.org

World Chain is live. As of October 17th, all 15M World ID holders and World App users have either migrated or are in the process of migrating to World Chain—the first blockchain designed to benefit humans first.

On Day One, World Chain is being supported by world class blockchain service providers and applications including Optimism, Alchemy, Uniswap, Safe, Dune and Etherscan. World Chain natively integrates World ID and gives all verified humans access to prioritized blockspace.

World Chain’s vision is to ensure that blockchains ultimately benefit humans first.

Today, World Chain is already the chain with the largest number of individually verified humans. The World Foundation is thrilled to be able to offer everyone an open invitation into a blockchain economy that puts verified humans first at every level of the stack.

World Chain is built for every human and will be prioritizing two kinds of use cases above all else to start:

  • Anonymous human verification. World Chain natively integrates with the only anonymous identity verification protocol that exists onchain today, World ID. This is a new primitive that has never existed before and enables unprecedented use cases. If you want to engage with real people, World Chain is the best possible place to build.
  • Financial access. World ID holders today are predominantly in countries where the adoption of stablecoins and other cryptocurrencies is growing the fastest, often because they provide true utility in people’s lives. We want World Chain to accelerate this trend by placing humans at the center of a network for products that provide even greater means of financial access and inclusion. We are integrating with a global network of on and offramps and stablecoin markets to support the millions of users around the world holding cryptocurrencies.

Since opening up the developer preview in July, World Chain has brought onboard several key partners to support both the millions of people moving to World Chain from OP Mainnet and the millions more that will be onboarding in the years to come. We’ve been thrilled by the support of the community in enabling World Chain to be world-class.

On Day 1, World Chain will be supported by the best blockchain service providers and applications that let developers build onchain. These include Optimism for shared security and interoperability, Alchemy for building onchain, Uniswap for swapping assets, Zerion for real-time APIs, Dune Analytics for analyzing data, Etherscan to explore the chain, Fireblocks for institutional custody, and Safe for multisignature wallet support. In addition, World Chain already has third party on and off ramps into over 150+ countries across the world.

If you’re interested in working with us on a more involved partnership, please reach out to connect directly with our team.

Real-world apps for millions of humans, today

For developers, World Chain offers you the opportunity to reach the largest user base of verified humans that exists anywhere onchain.

Around 15 million people across 160 countries can explore and use onchain applications through compatible wallets like World App. In addition, with the introduction of Mini Apps and Minikit announced today, your application will benefit from direct in-app distribution.

World ID holders span the globe. By deploying on World Chain and integrating with Mini Apps today, you can directly and immediately tap into millions of people across Argentina, Chile, Germany, Korea, Malaysia, the United States and more with a single deployment.

We hope to see World Chain use cases that benefit the lives of humans and provide real utility in their everyday lives. With built-in identity verification, use cases around commerce using stablecoins or other cryptocurrencies are within reach.

If you’re interested in building on World Chain, you could also accelerate your efforts with a grant from the World Foundation for certain kinds of projects like voting, bot-resistant social media, universal basic income, and governance. We love to support projects that help grow World Chain!

Blockspace for all humans

Around 15 million people across 160 countries have already created a World ID and a compatible wallet, collectively performing 150 million transactions. As of today, [Insert live counter] people have verified their World ID using an orb directly. As of August 2024, there were more unique wallets holding $20 worth of WLD on OP mainnet than there were unique wallets holding 20 USDC on all Ethereum networks combined.

However, to continue onboarding people at this accelerated pace, we need significant advancements in blockchain technology. World Chain addresses this need in several ways:

  1. Scaling vertically for more throughput. World Chain runs on the best-in-class sequencing software and is hosted on Alchemy. World Chain will be launching with a gas target of 5 Mgas/s. The gas target will be increased as demand grows, ensuring new users can join and rely on the low costs and high throughput of the chain. Read more about our approach to scaling in our earlier technical blog post.
  2. Priority blockspace for humans. On Day 1, World ID holders will benefit from free transactions on World Chain via World App. We’ll be integrating this benefit directly into blockchain sequencing itself through a collaboration with Flashbots later this year. Read more about our approach to integrating World ID into block production here.
  3. Gas allowance for humans. Verified addresses will also receive an allowance of some free gas. The goal is not just to be more inclusive, but to minimize the friction to get started. The protocol will seek to reach an equilibrium where gas for casual users is ultimately covered by fees from bots and power users. In the meantime, it will be sponsored by the World Foundation.

This is just the beginning of World Chain — we're extremely grateful to have you with us on this journey to build a blockchain economy designed to give real humans real utility in the world.

To get more involved:

To support initial liquidity for WLD on World Chain, World Assets Ltd. (a subsidiary of the Worldcoin Foundation) has entered into a short-term loan agreement with a trading firm operating outside of the US. On October 9, 2024 this trading firm received a loan of 2M WLD, with an initial term of 2 months. Thus, on October 9, the circulating supply increased correspondingly by 2M WLD. At the expiry of the loan, the trading firm will be required to return the loan in full.

Law firm NeosLegal and RAK DAO announced that the new system will be launched and discussed at the DAO Legal Clinic on October 25th. Irina Heaver, a partner at NeosLegal, said that the framework is expected to clarify how DAOs can remain legally compliant, and she believes this will have a significant impact on decentralized governance in the UAE and the wider Web3 ecosystem. The announcement emphasizes that the legal structure will clarify tax obligations and benefits. It will also establish property rights for on-chain and off-chain assets and provide legal protection for the founders, members, and contributors of the DAO from personal liability. The legal framework will also enable DAOs to enter into legally binding contracts and establish guidelines for resolving internal and external disputes.
