Representing and Expressing in the Metaverse

Validated Project

As we construct the Metaverse further, we realize that it is our duty to promote a digital environment that is really welcoming as well as available, where anybody may contribute their own ideas and work. Enterprises may play a crucial role in upskilling workers and facilitating entry to the Metaverse, which is essential if it is to fulfill its potential as a vital economical engine.

An increasing number of businesses, organizations, and perhaps even nations are venturing into imaginary spaces, making the Metaverse a hot topic this year. Although development of the Metaverse is ongoing, a study from the technology research and consultancy company Technavio predicts that by 2026, the Metaverse would have a market share of $50.37 billion. E-commerce is predicted to fuel the expansion of the Metaverse, with a market share of $60.47 billion by 2026, according to another research. There will likely be a rise in e-commerce across social media platforms in the next few years, which might point to the Metaverse’s rise as the social networking site of the future. As many members of Generation Z and the Millennial generation are displaying an interest in the Metaverse at this time is not surprising.

It is important for companies to provide customers with a broad range of visual elements to enable self-expression as well as foster a feeling of belonging in digital environments like the Metaverse. The wonderful thing about the web is that technology has given individuals the freedom to portray themselves in any way they see fit, but it is the responsibility of those working behind the scenes to provide users the means for doing so.

Digital Identity — Key to Metaverse

Metaverse platform Virtua’s “Digital Ownership Report 2022” finds that young people are particularly excited by the possibility of reinventing themselves in virtual worlds that allow the creation of computerized identities and the acquisition of simulated property. Although 70% of those polled in the United States believed that virtual products such as apparel as well as artworks have become a significant part of their identity, the research revealed that 63% of American millennials anticipate the Metaverse to help them redefine themselves. Key to the concept of the Metaverse is the freedom for users to create new identities. As compared to Web2 social media sites like TikTok and Instagram, users in the Metaverse will have far more latitude in their expression.

Reasons for Metaverse Representation & Self-Expression Important?

A person’s online and offline personas are of equal significance to today’s youth. It is clear from the virtualization study that the first generation to grow up with digital avatars has reached adulthood, and that their digital experiences have played a significant role in forming their sense of self. Sixty percent of millennials and sixty-two percent of members of Generation Z feel that one’s online persona is more essential than one’s in-person one. Brands that exist mostly online may cater to their target demographic’s need to develop an identity by offering them easy access to customized services that encourage individuality. Protests such as “#BlackLivesMatter” as well as “#SayHerName” that have gained traction online and in real life are fueled by a sense of shared identity and contribute to the development of tight-knit communities that share common goals and values. Companies that exist primarily in the digital realm are better positioned to unite their disparate customer bases by aggressively courting these new hybrid personas.

Apart from entertainment value, the metaverse has the potential to be used as a method of cultivating empathy. The influence of the metaverse on customers is significantly influenced by brands. Because of the metaverse, we can all experience the same shared sense of space, which is impossible in the two-dimensional world. Forgetting about superficial similarities and socially enforced signifiers, this medium allows us to connect on a deeper, more meaningful level based on our shared interests and experiences, rather than our physical proximity. It is one of the many reasons why the use of fictional avatars and gender-neutral pronouns in the virtual world is so vital. It’s no secret that despite all the advantages, digital environments also have their drawbacks. An issue to keep an eye out for is the omission of customizing tools that people wish to utilize, such as Black hair>

Privacy Challenges of Digital Identity

Despite the fact that digital identification is a major selling point of the Metaverse, there continue to be numerous safety concerns around this idea. Yet, this might lead to a number of problems, one of which is determining whether or not an avatar is who someone pretends to really be. The good news is that there are methods for overcoming these obstacles. Maybe SSI, or Self-Sovereign Identity, might help. Decentralized Identity, another term for SSI, describes the concept of giving users access to and management of their personal information.

Achievement of Self-Expression & Representation

Change up how people use and modify their avatars. For example, 48% of American millennials are women. When it comes to race and ethnicity, today’s youngest generation, Generation Z, leads the pack. With 1/3rd of Generation Z identifying as non-binary or non-cisgender, it is crucial to include a broad range of diverse characters and settings in order to foster a sense of community and acceptance among those who may not share the same sexual orientation or race. This requires a variety of options, such as different skin tones, prostheses, haircuts, body types, voices, etc. Some other crucial moves firms may make is to make their basic avatars cheap or inexpensive and just charge extra money for extra differentiators, like a nice jacket. Yet, characteristics for self-presentation may include more than just physical traits; they can also stand in for a more intangible but no less significant aspect of one’s personality.

  • U.S. Congressman Mike Flood: Looking forward to working with the next SEC Chairman to revoke the anti-crypto banking policy SAB 121

US House of Representatives will investigate Representative Mike Flood's recent statement: "Despite widespread opposition, SAB 121 is still operating as a regulation, even though it has never gone through the normal Administrative Procedure Act process." Flood said, "I look forward to working with the next SEC chairman to revoke SAB 121. Whether Chairman Gary Gensler resigns on his own or President Trump fulfills his promise to dismiss Gensler, the new government has an excellent opportunity to usher in a new era after Gensler's departure." He added, "It's not surprising that Gensler opposed the digital asset regulatory framework passed by the House on a bipartisan basis earlier this year. 71 Democrats and House Republicans passed this common-sense framework together. Although the Democratic-led Senate rejected it, it represented a breakthrough moment for cryptocurrency and may provide information for the work of the unified Republican government when the next Congress begins in January next year."

  • Victory Securities: Funding Rates halved and fell, Bitcoin's short-term direction is not one-sided

Zhou Lele, the Vice Chief Operating Officer of Victory Securities, analyzed that the macro and high-level negative impact risks in the cryptocurrency market have passed. The risks are now more focused on expected realization, such as the American entrepreneur Musk and the American "Efficiency Department" (DOGE) led by Ramaswamy. Last week, the net inflow of off-exchange Bitcoin ETF was US$1.67 billion, and the holdings of exchange contracts and CME contracts remained high, but the funding rates halved and fell back, indicating that the direction of Bitcoin in the short term is not one-sided, and bears are also accumulating strength.

  • ECB board member Villeroy: Falling inflation allows ECB to cut interest rates

ECB board member Villeroy de Galhau said in an interview that the decline in inflation allows the ECB to lower interest rates. In addition, the slow pace of price increases compared to average wages is also a factor in the rate cut. Villeroy de Galhau emphasized that the ECB's interest rate policy decision is independent of the Fed. Evidence shows that the ECB began to lower interest rates in early June, while the Fed lowered interest rates three months later. With the decline in inflation, we will be able to continue to lower interest rates. Currently, the market generally expects the ECB to cut interest rates by 25 basis points at the next meeting in December, but weaker data increases the possibility of a 50 basis point cut.

But the networks are really in business to give people what they want. It’s the truth.” - Steve Jobs
