Create, Sell, and Earn: Orb’s New Sticker Tool for Creators

From t2 world by Kay

Orb, one of the leading Web3 social apps, just rolled out a major update that’s set to revolutionize how creators monetize their content.

With the new sticker creation tool, creators now have a powerful, user-friendly way to design, sell, and earn from their art—while also benefiting from a unique revenue-sharing model. Let’s dive into why this is a big deal for creators and users of Lens like you and I and what to keep in mind when creating your very own stickers.

Why is this such an exciting update?

Creators are now able to create their own sticker packs and monetise them via a dutch auction like system. The auction starts at a low price (1 USDC) and increases as more people buy, encouraging early purchases. This creates a sense of urgency and rewards early buyers. Furthermore, royalties are split as follows, benefitting both the creator and those who purchased or referred the sticker pack.

Here’s how the revenue splits for sticker packs work on Orb:

  • Creators: Earn 40% of sales.
  • Sticker Holders: Share 40% of the royalties.
  • Club Treasuries: Receive 8%. (If no club is involved, this is split between creators and holders.)
  • Referrers: Earn a 4% referral bonus. (If there’s no referrer, the creator gets the bonus.)
  • Orb Platform Fee: Orb keeps an 8% fee to sustain the platform.

To give you a real-world example, I recently launched my first sticker pack, Halloween Friends, and within 24 hours, I sold over 50 copies.

My first sticker pack available now Halloween Friends

The concept of stickers or original gifs is very familiar to users of platforms like Telegram, Line etc. but on Orb it is just built different.

Unlike platforms like LINE, which charge creators a hefty 65% platform fee and offer little incentive for users to hold or share stickers, Orb flips the script. With fair royalties and built-in incentives for both creators and buyers, everyone wins—especially independent artists.

With Orb stickers on the other hand, not only is the creator fairly paid but by buying into the stickers, holders also get a share.

I have noticed a few things I would do a bit differently next time so I will share them below to hopefully make your sticker creation experience a smooth one!

Why listen to me? I have 15 years of experience in design and arts, with a background in musical theatre (costume, hair and makeup design) before pivoting to become a graphic design/content creator and educator in web3. I have shared my knowledge with over 3000 students through my online Udemy courses where I teach everything from digital art to digital fashion. My own personal art in the last year alone has been displayed at National Museums, Times Square and various web3 Events both IRL and virtually. Optimising designs to translate well in any situation is my speciality, and that is exactly what is need for a great sticker design, let me show you what I mean! (All opinions from here on are my own)

Sticker File size

  • Designs must be a square format with a transparent background, minimum 512x512pxPrograms like Canva Pro, Procreate, Procreate Pocket, Affinity Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Blender will allow you to export in this formatI created mine in Procreate at 512x512px with a dpi of 300 just to be safe, they look great in the app

  • You can choose to submit anywhere from 1-30 stickers, it is good to note the starting price (1USDC) will always be the same meaning more stickers equals more value for the buyer, and a higher chance they will use your stickers meaning more exposure for youso far the average seems to be around 15-20 stickers. Try to aim for 12-15 or so and go from there. When your are designing them anything over this may feel overwhelming, especially if you are designing from scratch.

Sticker Designs

  • Most important thing to keep in mind is your stickers will appear very small
  • In the main feed they are around half a centimetre or 1/4 of an inch, in the new Jam chat channel they are 2 cm or less than an inch, meaning they will be displayed very small (these measurements where taken on an iPhone 12 mini and may vary depending on the device)
  • The simpler the design, the better it translates
  • If you want words on a sticker, make sure they take up most of the space, or at the very least span across the width of the sticker
  • If you are stuck on designs, think emojis. since the like button has been replaced by the stickers, what emojis would you want? Look through the existing stickers and create ones that have not been made yet
  • Take inspiration from trending memes, seasonal themes, or unique personal styles that resonate with your audience. Think beyond static designs—consider if your stickers could communicate emotion, humor, or story.

A great sticker by JESSYJEANNE (LessyFries Sticker Pack)

  • the bottom left corner when displayed as a reaction to a post in the main feed and a small portion of the top when used in the Jam chat will be hidden, there is no need to keep it blank but good to keep in mind just incase it hinders your design (see image below for reference)

On the left is how it will be displayed in the main feed, the right is in the Jam chat (sticker packs featured left: ORBBRO created by ORB, right: imaginary friends by ASAMISSCREAM)

Colours to Use

  • Since stickers are so small, colour really becomes important
  • Bright and vibrant colours go a long way
  • The stickers will be displayed on a white or a rainbow-cream background (see the image above for reference), keep this in mind when choosing colours and borders for your designs
  • If you want impact, pair contrasting colours. Black and white, red and green, purple and yellow, blue and orange etc. This is called colour theory and is proven to naturally attract the viewers eye
  • On that note it would be great to see some colour inclusive stickers for colour blindness, avoiding greens and blues etc.
  • Giving definition to your design by adding an outline to your design will also help your stickers stand out. The official requirements say giving the stickers a white border is optional, but it will completes the design nicely, so consider adding it if you know how (some stickers have a black border, this also looks great)

Some stickers by AOIFEDWYER. These designs are fun and easy to use and have quickly become a staple in my sticker uses

Cointime News: JuCoin CEO Sammi Li delivered a keynote speech at the TOKEN2049 conference, analyzing the current challenges in user experience (UX) design in the cryptocurrency industry. Sammi Li believes that the existing encryption product experience fails to effectively empathize with users, often leading to usage anxiety, which hinders the large-scale adoption of Web3. Combining her rich experience in the luxury goods industry, she emphasizes that building trust relies on paying attention to user emotions and critical moments of interaction, and constructing it through details rather than simply technical presentations. JuCoin is applying these user centered design principles to its Web3 ecosystem construction, aiming to lower user barriers and enhance user experience by optimizing JuChain and related product designs. It calls on the encryption industry to think together and place user experience at a more core position.

On April 29th, Nick Tomaino, the founder of 1confirmation, wrote on X that there is a negative correlation between the popularity of seed round projects and their success. Participating in a hot round is indeed exciting: high funding amounts, intense competition, big-name investors, and extensive media coverage. However, rarely does participating in such hot projects before the product-market fit is clear bring truly outstanding results. At 1confirmation, some of the most "popular" projects we have invested in have actually performed the worst.
