Japanese game developer Square Enix has announced that it is working with gaming platform Elixir to drive the adoption of Web3 games. Elixir offers both traditional and Web3 games on its platform and recently integrated the popular Epic Games Store library onto its platform.
The move is expected to merge the distinct worlds of Web2 and Web3 gaming. While specifics about the collaboration have not been disclosed, Elixir CEO Carlos Roldan believes it will help bring Web3 games to mainstream audiences. Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda has previously been vocal about the potential for Web3 gaming, leading an investment round into the metaverse game The Sandbox in 2020 and announcing its first Web3 game, Symbiogenesis, in 2022.
Elixir has added a number of Web3 games to its launcher, offering a range of titles across Solana, Binance Chain, Ethereum, and Polygon. By partnering with Square Enix, Elixir hopes to tap into the growing demand for decentralized gaming and aims to bring its technology to work and have users playing Web2 and Web3 games with no distinction.
