Digital fashion studio XLABEL has struck a deal with the estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan, to develop a multi-year licensing deal on the Ethereum blockchain. The studio will create a 9,999-token NFT collection featuring Tarzan: Lord of the Apes, which will retail for 0.05 ETH ($90) each to an allowlist that will launch on 28 March, with a public sale commencing the following day for 0.06 ETH ($110) each.
The Tarzan character in NFT form will also be compatible with Unreal Engine, a game development software developed by Epic Games that will allow the character to feature in various third-party blockchain-driven metaverse games and platforms.
Tarzan is set to become the first character to be published across book, stage, film and metaverse platforms, according to an XLABEL press release. The character's legacy dates back to Edgar Rice Burroughs' original 1912 Tarzan of the Apes magazine series, followed by novels and early film adaptations. The announcement follows XLABELs development of an NFT collection based on Betty Boop last year, in collaboration with GameStop.
