June 21 (Cointime) - A coalition of US law enforcement agencies has announced the creation of the Darknet Marketplace and Digital Currency Crimes Task Force, which will focus on tackling crimes related to digital currencies and the darknet. The task force will target crimes such as drug trafficking, money laundering, theft of personal information and child exploitation. The agencies involved in the task force have been working together since 2017 and have seen an increase in the use of cryptocurrency in criminal activities. The task force will have an international reach, with the Homeland Security Investigations having 93 overseas locations in 56 countries. Law enforcement agencies worldwide are forming specialized units to tackle crypto-related crimes.
