Patrick McHenry, chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, said he plans to hold a committee vote on a sweeping bill establishing a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency products in the coming weeks.
The bill will clarify the responsibilities of regulators for cryptocurrency products and provide a way for crypto companies and exchanges to register.
While crypto companies have been calling on Congress to enact clear rules, Democrats have expressed concern. The Senate must also pass any cryptocurrency legislation, with key MPs Sherrod Brown and Elizabeth Warren expressing more skepticism.
