Earlier this week, Israeli police announced that they had frozen a Barclays bank account, which authorities said was related to Hamas fundraising, and blocked cryptocurrency accounts used to raise donations, but did not specify how many accounts or the value of the assets. Blockchain research firm TRM Labs said in a research report this week that cryptocurrency fundraising had increased prior to several rounds of violent events involving Hamas. After the May 2021 conflict, the cryptocurrency address controlled by Hamas received more than $400,000. However, TRM noted that since last week's violent events, prominent support groups related to Hamas have only transferred thousands of dollars through cryptocurrency. In addition, from December 2021 to April of this year, Israel seized nearly 190 cryptocurrency accounts allegedly related to Hamas, confiscating cryptocurrency worth "tens of millions of dollars."
