SEC, DOJ Charge Businessman Connected to Steve Bannon With Fraud Involving Crypto

Miles Guo, an exiled businessman, was arrested this morning in New York over a $1 billion fraud conspiracy involving cryptocurrency. 

Guo, who goes by multiple names, defrauded thousands of online followers and bought himself and people close to him “a 50,000 square-foot mansion, a $3.5 million Ferrari, and even two $36,000 mattresses,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement.  

Guo is also reportedly linked to Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist to former President Donald Trump. In 2020 Bannon was charged with fraud and arrested on Guo's yacht, before Trump pardoned him as one of his last acts in office.

  • ZachXBT: Suspected insiders made $3.8 million in profits on RTR

    On August 10th, Chain Detective ZachXBT posted on social media that 4 addresses made a profit of $3.8 million in the RTR sell-off, with the 9G1ELG and GHoW2 addresses belonging to the same person and receiving 500 SOL in new funds within minutes after the TGE. Previously, it was reported that Restore The Republic (RTR) had its TGE on the evening of August 8th, with rumors circulating in the community that it was related to a new project by the Trump family. The RTR token reached a high of $0.156 on August 9th at midnight. Afterwards, Eric Trump, the current Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization and son of Donald Trump, warned on social media to "be careful of false tokens" and that the only official Trump project has yet to be announced and will be announced on Twitter first. After the statement was released, RTR quickly dropped by about 95%, with a trading volume of $164 million within just 15 hours of its creation.

    The US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released an updated draft version of tax form 1099-DA for cryptocurrency brokers and investors to report certain transaction income. The public has 30 days to provide feedback to the IRS on this version. Starting in 2026, cryptocurrency investors who use brokers (currently mainly Coinbase and Kraken, among others) will receive 1099-DAs from these brokers to report certain cryptocurrency sales and trades as taxable events to the IRS. IRS officials say this form will "bring more convenience and clarity" to users who pay US cryptocurrency taxes.

    According to the monitoring of on-chain analyst Yu Jin, Jump Trading may be selling ETH: they are currently redeeming a wstETH (120,000 pieces) worth $410 million in batches into ETH and then transferring it to exchanges such as Binance/OKX. So far, they have unpacked and redeemed 83,000 wstETH into 97,500 ETH in the 9 days since July 25. Among them, 66,000 ETH (191.4 million US dollars) have entered the exchange.At present, there are still 37,600 wstETH in their wstETH storage address that have not been transferred out; 11,500 stETH in the redemption ETH address is being redeemed into ETH; and 20,000 ETH in the ETH transfer address to the exchange are waiting to enter the exchange in batches.

    According to reports from foreign media, the Trump campaign team has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, claiming that Biden's transfer of $96 million in campaign funds to Harris is illegal. David Warrington, a lawyer for the Trump campaign team, said that this was a "shameless money-grabbing act" and would constitute the largest excessive donation and most serious violation in the history of the Federal Election Law. Shortly after Biden withdrew from the election and appointed Harris as his preferred successor, she took over Biden's campaign committee's bank account.
