Meta, previously known as Facebook, is reportedly offering exorbitant salaries to programmers to build out virtual reality-powered games, apps, and technology for the metaverse, according to anonymous insiders. Programmers are said to be earning total compensation packages approaching $1 million, which is significantly more than what is being offered by other gaming companies, according to Andiamo CEO Patrick McAdams. The company is investing heavily in the development of the metaverse, a seemingly realistic computer-generated space where users can interact with each other. Despite Meta's high salaries, the company is also facing cost-cutting measures, having announced plans to lay off 10,000 workers last month.
