Alexis Ohanian, founder and General Partner of venture capital firm Seven Seven Six, believes that "play-to-earn" gaming is the future and that within the next five years, the majority of gamers won't play games unless they are being properly valued for that time. Ohanian cited the success of Axie Infinity and the six-figure sales of virtual items in other games as evidence that the "play-to-earn" model will become standard for video games. However, many crypto industry executives and developers disagree, arguing that "play-to-earn" is not a sustainable model for the industry and that monetary value should not be the main value metric for gamers.
