July 2 (Cointime) - Recent surveys reveal that public concern over the possibility of a US central bank digital currency (CBDC) is shared by Canada and the UK. Majority of Brits express concern about UK authorities having control over people’s funds, while 39% of Canadians worry about a loss of control over their finances.
However, 59% of the 1,500 Canadians surveyed said they were willing to use CBDCs for payments. The Bank of Canada is exploring the technology in case Canadian Parliament asks for one in the future, while the Bank of England and HM Treasury have been exploring the possibility of a CBDC since 2021.
A recent survey by Trezor found that there is a significant knowledge gap and concern among the general public about the potential features and control of a CBDC.
