Canada's privacy commissioner and several other countries, including Germany and France, have expressed concerns over ChatGPT, with Italy recently banning the chatbot altogether following a bug that exposed users' payment information and chat history.
However, some experts argue that an A.I. ban may not be feasible or effective due to the widespread use and development of A.I. models. Instead, they propose a broader discussion and regulation of society's intended use of A.I. to ensure values such as democracy and transparency. The Center for A.I. and Digital Policy has already filed a complaint with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission accusing OpenAI of unfair practices, and others have signed an open letter calling for a slowing of A.I. development.
