OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has stated that China should take a leading role in shaping the regulations around artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure the safety of new systems.
Altman believes that China has some of the best AI talent in the world and that the best minds from around the world are needed to solve the difficulties in alignment for advanced AI systems. However, OpenAI's leading product, ChatGPT, is currently banned in China due to data and censorship regulations, which may make it difficult for Western companies to make inroads in AI in the country.
