In order to continuously improve the transparency and accountability of government agencies, Empower Oversight Whistleblowers & Research has recently submitted a new Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. The application seeks communication records between former Chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Jay Clayton, and individuals possibly related to controversial cryptocurrency enforcement decisions by the SEC. From May 4, 2017 to December 23, 2020, Clayton specifically stated that Bitcoin is not a security.
In addition, the confirmation of senior SEC officials echoed his position on Ethereum. It is worth noting that these announcements boosted the value of both tokens. However, as Clayton's term ended, the SEC suddenly filed a lawsuit against Ripple, claiming that its XRP token is a security, causing the cryptocurrency community to be caught in a speculation storm.
In addition, according to Empower Oversight's recent FOIA request, the organization seeks comprehensive communication details between Clayton and figures such as Jasmine Burgess and John D'Agostino.
