According to MI6 chief Richard Moore, artificial intelligence is unlikely to replace human intelligence gathering in the near future. While AI may overtake some aspects of human cognition, Moore believes that the "extraordinary bond" in human relationships is crucial to intelligence gathering.
Moore also expressed concerns about China's use of AI and data collection for geopolitical goals, including the use of COVID-19 vaccines as a means to gather data. Despite the challenges posed by AI, MI6 is already utilizing the technology to disrupt weapons flowing to Russia for use in its invasion of Ukraine. Other intelligence services, such as the CIA and FBI in the United States, are also exploring ways to use AI while protecting national security.
