Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has announced that the launch of the Metaverse will take place in Ivory Coast. The Director of Public Policy for Africa at Meta, Balkissa Ide Siddo, expressed that the Metaverse has the potential to revolutionize the way school lessons are taught and facilitate medical students in practicing surgical techniques. Meta debuted its inaugural Metaverse encounter in Africa half a year ago during a mixed-reality concert held in Lagos, Nigeria, where creators were introduced to innovative opportunities in the Metaverse via NFTs, Avatars, and Augmented Reality. The launch in Nigeria was strategic due to the significant impact Nigerian creators have on content creation throughout Africa and the world.
