Menthol Protocol and peaq have collaborated to create a carbon footprint calculator specifically designed for Web3 decentralized application and infrastructure networks. The aim of this tool is to promote sustainability and enable dApps and DePINs on peaq to achieve carbon neutrality through automatic offsetting of their carbon emissions using tokenized carbon and renewable energy certificates.
Accurately determining the carbon footprint of blockchain transactions is a well-known challenge, but this collaboration aims to establish a calculator that can be used for Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePINs) and decentralized applications (dApps) that operate on peaq and its canary network krest. The calculator will not only present an outline of the network’s ecological statistics but will also establish the basis for an offsetting mechanism, enabling dApps and DePINs on peaq to achieve carbon neutrality.
