Majority of UK Citizens Express Concerns Over Potential Control of Central Bank Digital Currency, Survey Finds

June 30 (Cointime) - According to a survey by Trezor, 75% of respondents are worried about the UK government's potential control over access to funds through its proposed Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).

The survey also found that 67% expressed concerns about the potential to impose time conditions on spending, and 59% believe that UK authorities would use a digital pound to block specific individuals from using money.

The Bank of England (BoE) launched a public consultation on the digital pound in February, but the survey respondents showed caution towards CBDC. An analyst at Trezor, Josef Tětek, suggests a comprehensive, society-wide debate before the UK or any other country rolls out programmable, trackable, government-controlled money.
