Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund (BLDF), backed by Jack Dorsey, has provided legal funding for 11 Bitcoin developers who are being sued by self-proclaimed Bitcoin inventor Craig Wright. According to BLDF's founders, defending Bitcoin developers eases the pressure on them and ensures the legal system will not interfere with open-source software development.
In a statement, Dorsey argued that the outcomes of these cases are important for everyone and could have serious detrimental effects on open-source development. BLDF seeks to defend the right of open-source developers to create and freely share their code for the greater good and safeguard innovation by shielding developers from legal intimidation, said Alex Morcos in a separate statement.
