Internet Computer launches European subnet to provide GDPR compliant infrastructure

On December 18th, the DFINITY Foundation announced the launch of a European subnet on the Internet Computer (ICP), providing infrastructure for decentralized applications (dApps) that comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This new infrastructure will enable developers to launch dApps that protect personal and financial data in the European market, complying with strict and established regulatory practices.

In addition, there are two upcoming features on the Internet Computer that will further enhance the privacy and security of user data under the specifications of GDPR and the European subnet: VetKeys will allow for distributed decryption, and AMD SEV-SNP aims to protect boundary node virtual machines (VMs).

The launch of the European subnet was carried out after DFINITY's three proposals submitted to NNS were approved, with 99% of ICP token holders participating in the vote supporting these proposals. The European subnet is now live and open to developers in the European Union, who can create GDPR-compliant dApps on this infrastructure.
