Video game studios are turning to generative AI to automate tedious aspects of game design, such as NPC dialogue and in-game renderings, in order to speed up development and focus on more important elements. Generative AI uses prompts to create new content, ranging from simple sentences to complex works of art, by learning from a large amount of data.
Blizzard Entertainment, Square Enix, Roblox, Ubisoft, and NCSoft are among the companies already using AI in their games, with applications ranging from character renderings to generating first draft NPC dialogue. However, developers must be cautious not to infringe on existing copyrights when using AI-generated content.
