The Bruce Lee Foundation has partnered with Shibuya, an NFT-driven video platform, to establish a Web3 presence for the late martial artist and actor. The collaboration will see the creation of an open edition Ethereum NFT named "House of Lee: Genesis", featuring artwork of Lee drawn by Emily “pplpleasr” Yang and designed with the help of Shannon Lee, the founder and president of the Bruce Lee Foundation.
The NFT will be available for purchase at 0.008 ETH each before the mint ends. While the NFT is touted as a "ticket to the House of Lee," there are no concrete plans for its future use or utility. An unlimited number of open edition NFTs can be purchased before the Friday mint ends.
Shibuya expects the mint to be the first stage in an ongoing Web3 partnership with the Bruce Lee Foundation. Shibuya has focused on creating original video series that let NFT holders have a say in the production process. Its first project, the anime-style White Rabbit series, enables NFT holders to choose the next narrative path at the end of each segment.
Shibuya raised $6.9m in December 2021, led by Andreessen Horowitz and Variant Fund, and signed on for a $3.5m investment by Sequoia Capital India. Whether Shibuya intends to create Bruce Lee video content on a similar model remains to be seen. The teaser clip for the NFT collaboration will be played on a Times Square video billboard during NFT.NYC conference.
