The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission released its "2023-24 Annual Report" today, which mentions the addition of a new chapter to the "Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Ordinance". The chapter aims to assist the industry in dealing with the risks of money laundering and terrorist financing caused by the unique characteristics of virtual assets when engaging in virtual asset-related businesses, and ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
In addition, in November 2023, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission held two online seminars on combating money laundering/terrorist financing, providing the latest information on major regulatory developments and recent observations in the regulatory field to nearly 1,800 management and compliance personnel from licensed institutions. External speakers shared the latest trends in fraud cases, provided opinions on suspicious transaction reports, and outlined the situation of Hong Kong's proliferation financing risks.
