June 20 (Cointime) - Media outlets, including the BBC, falsely reported that social media influencer Andrew Tate had $300 million worth of Bitcoin seized due to a Google translate error.
However, a press release from the Office of Information and Public Relations clarified that only 21 BTC were actually seized as part of an investigation into allegations of human trafficking and sexual assault.
Tate, along with three other defendants, has been ordered to face trial under house arrest for charges including constituting an organized criminal group, human trafficking, rape, illegal access to computer systems, and instigation of violence.
The trial is expected to last several years and Tate's spokesperson has stated that they will use the opportunity to demonstrate their innocence.
