Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has announced the merger of two entities to form a new business unit called Google Deepmind, dedicated to developing the next generation of AI breakthroughs and products. The unit was formed by merging the Brain team from Google Research and DeepMind, which Google acquired in 2014. The goal is to accelerate the development of AI in a safe and responsible manner. The AI developments will be used to enhance Google products, but specific details of implementation are unknown. A recent survey of 11,004 American citizens found that 56% believed AI would have a major impact on the US economy, while 13% believed it would help more than hurt American workers.
