Former SEC official John Reed Stark has suggested that Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange, may face criminal charges for alleged money laundering, fraud, deception, and obstruction of justice. The charges could be related to disguising financial assets to avoid detection of illegal activity.
The US DOJ may be working with the SEC, CFTC, and whistleblowers to build a case against Binance. The CFTC has already filed a complaint against Binance's CEO and three entities operating the platform, while the SEC has filed a 136-page complaint alleging that certain Binance entities and CEO Changpeng Zhao co-mingled billions of dollars in customer funds.
