Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has expressed his continued optimism about the potential of the Metaverse, despite recent claims that the technology is "dead." Sweeney mocked a Business Insider article titled "RIP Metaverse, we hardly knew ye," which suggested that the technology had been abandoned by the business world. The article cited examples of Metaverse platforms that had failed to live up to their hype, but Sweeney pointed out that there are still 600 million users across virtual world platforms such as Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, The Sandbox, and VR Chat. Epic Games recently announced a $2 billion funding round to accelerate its plans for the Metaverse, including a partnership with LEGO Group.
