On December 15th, the Southern District of New York Prosecutor's Office in the United States revealed that security engineer Shakeeb Ahmed admitted to attacking Nirvana Finance (a Solana ecosystem algorithmic stablecoin protocol) and another decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, marking the first time someone has been convicted of hacking a smart contract.
Ahmed pleaded guilty to computer fraud before U.S. District Judge Ona T. Wang and agreed to forfeit over $12.3 million, including approximately $5.6 million in cryptocurrency obtained through fraudulent means, and to pay a total of $5,071,074.23 in compensation to the victims.
