The Future Blockchain Summit 2023 closed today in Dubai. During the conference, Dr. Jane Thomason, the first chair of the World Meta Universe Council, discussed several different areas related to climate blockchain applications. She commented that the first is green digital asset solutions: green tokens, green finance, and green bonds, as we need to mobilize funds to invest in technologies that solve climate change. The second is around smart grid management and the ability to tag and store energy as well as manage off-grid energy.

The third is around NFT and gamification, which we are now seeing many applications for. NFTs are designed to raise funds for climate action, while gamification is designed to change behavior and engage in more climate smart activities.

The fourth is tokenization of carbon offsets, with many activities in this area and in regenerative finance. Then there is verification, measurement, and reporting, because the beauty of blockchain is that it can create a trust layer in reporting and also create a trust layer in the process of climate funds flowing to beneficiaries.
