Particle, a digital art platform that uses blockchain technology to offer fractionalized ownership of culturally significant artworks, is set to sell digital "particles" of an iconic sculpture by H.R. Giger, the artist who designed the creature featured in the 1979 sci-fi horror classic Alien.
The sculpture, called "Necronom/Alien III, 2005," is edition #1 of a collection of six statues and is made of steel and polyester resin, measuring over seven feet long and three feet tall. The digital "particles" represent a 1/500 stake in the sculpture, with a total value of half a million dollars, and will be sold for $1,000 each starting on June 16. Holders of the digital "particles" will have the opportunity to vote on whether the physical sculpture should be sold if it ever receives an offer to be purchased.
