Crypto-archaeologist Udi Wertheimer shared a screenshot from Bitcoin discussion platform Bitcointalk that showed a member named Sabunir selling a JPEG for 500 BTC in January 2010.

However, some argue that the payment was a donation rather than an actual sale, and without confirmation from Sabunir, the transaction cannot be verified. Regardless, this revelation highlights the pioneering movement towards on-chain sales of digital files in exchange for crypto that eventually led to the creation of NFTs.
