Bitfinex hacker Ilya Lichtenstein released a five-minute video on X, which is his first public statement since his arrest in 2022. In the video, Ilya Lichtenstein reiterated that he is the hacker and acted alone, denying the speculation in the Netflix documentary about his wife and his father (or possibly a spy agency, possibly Russia) being involved in the theft, and expressing plans to work in cybersecurity after being released from prison. Ilya Lichtenstein was jailed for allegedly stealing 120,000 bitcoins from Bitfinex in 2016, and the video was recorded during a remote visit with his wife while in prison.
